Why it works
Cut-Out vs. Pocket Style—Which Fits Your Build

The Cut-Out profile is our most popular F-250 option for owners who leveled or lifted their truck and need tire clearance without fully covering the factory paint. Unlike our Pocket Style flares that wrap over the entire fender lip, the Cut-Out design leaves the top 1–1.5 inches of painted metal visible, creating a two-tone look that follows Ford’s factory body lines.

Material Construction & UV Protection
The details

Material Construction & UV Protection

We mold every F-250 Cut-Out flare from Dura-Flex® ABS—a proprietary blend engineered for high-impact resistance and UV stability. Standard ABS plastic can yellow and crack under direct sunlight within 18–24 months. Our UV-stabilized formula maintains matte black color and structural integrity through years of sun exposure, temperature swings from −40°F to 140°F, and repeated pressure washing.

Thickness & Reinforcement

Each flare measures 4.5mm thick at the mounting flange and 3.8mm along the outer lip. Internal ribs run vertically behind the visible surface, preventing flex when the flare takes impact from trail debris. This reinforcement is why our flares can handle brush contact and minor trail rub without permanent deformation—critical for F-250 owners who tow off-pavement or run jobsites with tight maneuvering.

Installation Process & Mounting Hardware
The details

Installation Process & Mounting Hardware

Most F-250 model years from 2011 forward accept our Cut-Out flares without drilling new holes. We include stainless steel mounting clips that slide into the factory fender liner mounting points—the same slots Ford uses for the OE fender liner screws. Once clips are positioned, the flare snaps over them and you torque the included stainless bolts to 8 lb-ft.

The inner edge bonds to the fender using pre-applied 3M™ automotive tape. Clean the fender surface with the supplied alcohol wipe, remove the red liner, and press the flare firmly for 30 seconds along the entire length. The tape reaches full bond strength after 72 hours, so we recommend parking the truck indoors or covered if possible during that cure window.

Perfect fit on my 2018 F-250
I installed these on my 2018 F-250 Lariat with a 2.5-inch leveling kit and 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers. The flares went on in about two hours with basic hand tools—no drilling required. The clips lined up perfectly with the factory holes, and the 3M tape has held strong through three months of daily driving and two trail weekends. I left them matte black and they look sharp against my Magnetic Gray paint.

Great coverage without hiding my paint
I wanted tire coverage but didn’t want to lose the Velocity Blue color on my fenders. These Cut-Out flares were the perfect solution—they clear my 35×12.50 Toyos with room to spare, and the factory paint still shows along the top edge. Installation was straightforward, and the instructions included torque specs for every bolt. Very happy with the look and quality.

Painted them to match—came out factory-perfect
I scuffed the flares with 320-grit, used two coats of SEM plastic primer, then had my body shop spray them in Stone Gray to match my 2015 F-250 King Ranch. The paint adhered perfectly and the finish looks identical to Ford’s factory clearcoat. The flares have been on for eight months now with zero cracking or paint issues. Well worth painting if you want a seamless color-matched look.

Held up great on the jobsite
I run my F-250 on construction sites daily—lots of backing into tight spots and brushing against fencing. These flares have taken hits from rebar, concrete forms, and gravel piles without cracking. The UV protection is real—they still look matte black after a year in the Texas sun, no fading to gray like cheap flares I’ve used before. Solid product.

Cleared my 35s with leveling kit
I was worried about clearance with my Bilstein 5100 leveling setup and 35×12.50R20 BFG KO2s, but these flares gave me the extra width I needed. No rubbing at full lock or during compression on trails. The install took me about ninety minutes—would’ve been faster if I wasn’t stopping to double-check the instructions. Really happy with how they look and function.

Lifetime warranty sealed the deal
I’ve bought fender flares before that cracked after two winters. Bushwacker’s lifetime warranty gave me confidence to try these, and the quality backs it up. The plastic feels thick and solid, not hollow or flimsy. I’ve had them on my 2020 F-250 Tremor for eighteen months now through Minnesota winters and they still look brand new. Worth every dollar.

Common Questions About F-250 Cut-Out Flares

Most F-250 model years from 2011 forward install without drilling new holes. We include stainless steel clips that slide into the factory fender liner mounting points—the same slots Ford uses for the OE liner screws. Once the clips are positioned, the flare snaps over them and you secure each clip with the included stainless bolts torqued to 8 lb-ft.

A few early 2011 models may require one pilot hole per flare for alignment, but the kit includes a drill template if needed. The inner edge bonds using pre-applied 3M automotive tape, so no additional adhesive is required.

The Cut-Out flare adds 2.0–2.5 inches of width beyond the stock fender line, which accommodates up to 35×12.50R20 tires on most F-250 configurations with a 2.5-inch front leveling kit and stock rear suspension. Wheel offset plays a major role—we recommend staying between 0 and +20mm offset with 4.5–5.0 inches of backspacing.

If you’re running 37-inch tires on a 2017-current Super Duty, you may need to trim the inner fender liner or perform a cab-mount chop depending on your specific wheel and suspension setup. For 33-inch tires or smaller, the flares provide more than enough clearance even at full steering lock.

Yes, our Cut-Out flares accept automotive primer and paint without issue. Scuff the entire outer surface with 320-grit sandpaper to create adhesion, wipe clean with wax-and-grease remover, then apply two coats of automotive-grade plastic primer like SEM or Dupli-Color.

Once the primer cures, you can topcoat with your truck’s factory paint code—most body shops can mix a quart of Ford’s exact color for around forty dollars. Finish with two coats of automotive clearcoat for UV protection and gloss. The Dura-Flex ABS material holds paint as well as any factory bumper cover.

Most DIY installers complete the full set in 90 minutes to two hours using basic hand tools—a ratchet set, Phillips screwdriver, and rubbing alcohol for surface prep. The process involves positioning the stainless mounting clips into factory holes, snapping the flare over the clips, torquing the bolts to spec, and bonding the inner edge with the pre-applied 3M tape.

If you’re painting the flares before installation, add time for scuffing, priming, and topcoat application. The 3M tape reaches full bond strength after 72 hours, so avoid pressure washing or off-road use during that cure window.

Our exclusive lifetime warranty covers material defects, UV fade, cracking, and warping for as long as you own your truck. If a flare develops stress cracks from normal use, the matte black surface fades to gray, or the material warps due to temperature extremes, we replace the affected piece at no charge.

The warranty does not cover damage from collisions, intentional modification like cutting or drilling beyond the provided template, or installation errors. No receipt or proof-of-purchase-date is required—your flare’s molded date code serves as production verification.

We manufacture separate SKUs for each F-250 generation because Ford changed the fender contour and mounting points between the 2011-2016 and 2017-current body styles. When ordering, select the product variant that matches your truck’s model year—the dropdown menu on the product page lets you choose between 2011-2016 (SKU 20939-02) and 2017-current (SKU 20939-07).

Both versions use the same Dura-Flex ABS material and Cut-Out profile design, but the mounting hole positions and fender curve radii differ to ensure a precision fit for each generation.

Both profiles extend coverage 2.0–2.5 inches beyond the stock fender line, so they offer equivalent tire spray and debris protection along the rocker panels and lower doors. The difference is aesthetic: Cut-Out flares leave the factory-painted fender lip exposed for a two-tone look, while Pocket Style flares wrap over the entire lip and add bolt-head rivets for an aggressive off-road appearance.

If maximum protection is your priority and you don’t mind covering all the paint along the wheel arch, Pocket Style may be preferable. If you want tire clearance while keeping your truck’s color visible along the fender line, Cut-Out is the better choice.
